Edward J. Burnette, at 74, of Naytahwaush, MN, died Sunday August 5, 2012 at the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley, MN.
Edward Joseph Burnette, son of Simon and Effie Quist Burnette, was born on March 27, 1938 in Naytahwaush. He grew up in Naytahwaush and attended school there. As a young man, Eddie worked as a logger for several years. He then began working as a carpenter for the White Earth Reservation. Eddie was united in marriage to Ada Beaulieu and the couple was blessed with eight children. They made their home together in Naytahwaush and Eddie continued working as a carpenter for most of his career. He also spent over twenty years making beautiful birch bark crafts. He often sold his artwork for “casino money” as trips to the Casino were by far his favorite pastime. He truly enjoyed being outdoors and spent many hours leeching and ricing. In his younger years, Eddie also liked to hunt and fish.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Ada of Naytahwaush; four sons: Terry, Edward Jr. “Butchie” (Mary), Shannon (Christina), and Shane, all of Naytahwaush; two daughters, Julie Burnette and Gina Burnette both of Naytahwaush; one brother, James Burnette of Naytahwaush; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Noreen and Cheryl, four grandchildren, one great granddaughter, seven brothers, and one sister.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00am on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Naytahwaush, MN, with Fr. Dwight Hoeberechts, OMI officiating. Providing music will be Richard Armstrong. Serving as pallbearers will be Wallie Burnette, Gene Lang, Shannon Burnette II, Donovan Burnette, Roger Burnette and Terrance Burnette II. All of Eddie’s family and friends will serve as honorary bearers. Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 8th, at the Old Community Center in Naytahwaush, beginning at 5:00pm and continue all night until the Mass on Thursday.
Interment will be at St. Anne’s Catholic Cemetery, Naytahwaush.
