Lorraine Scott Kaupang-Voeller

Lorraine Kaupang-Voeller, age 87, of Hasting, MN, formerly of Winger, MN and Great Falls, MT, died Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Regina Nursing Home in Hastings, MN.

Lorraine Agnes Scott, daughter of Leo and Madeline (Villebrun) Scott, was born on April 3, 1925 in Bejou, MN. When Lorraine was a young teenager, her mother passed away. At that time she stepped up to help her father care for her three younger siblings, the youngest being Lois Jean, who became the daughter she never had and her best friend. She was a graduate of Mahnomen High School. She moved to Minneapolis and worked for Northwest Airlines food service and Bell Telephone Co.

July 21, 1945 Lorraine married William Carl Kaupang. They were blessed with 2 sons; Harold and Bruce. They farmed near Winger and raised grain crops, turkeys, and milked cows. She loved growing her large gardens of vegetables and flowers. She enjoyed entertaining so the family farm became the center of many large family softball games, picnics and card parties. Lorraine was a member of the Winger Lioness, participated in the Mahnomen bowling league and spent many hours sewing, doing embroidery and macramé. Her true passion was cooking for local establishments and she proudly became the head cook for the Winger Public School. She greatly enjoyed that position, which enabled her to provide home-cooked meals for young children for nearly 18 years. After Lorraine retired from the school, she and William continued farming until his death in 1986. Lorraine later met Frank Voeller from Great Falls, MT where he lived and had worked in the copper mines.

Lorraine then added seven step children to her family. She and Frank had many great friends whom they liked to play cards and go dancing with. Lorraine has made her home at Regina Nursing Home in Hastings, MN the past several years. There she was actively making and selling beaded necklaces, playing bingo and learning to do watercolor paintings.

Lorraine is survived by two sons; Harold (LaRae) of Hastings, MN, and Bruce of Winger; six grandchildren: William (Edna), Scott, Amy (Jesse) Sherman, Brianna, Michelle (Richard) Kirk and Ross (Tracy) and 11 great grandchildren; and one sister, Lois (Byron) Kaupang of Winger.

Also surviving are step-children: Jim (Deb) Voeller of Helena, MT, Richard (Donna) Voeller of Billings, MT, Ron (Caren) Voeller of Cheyenne, WY, Kevin Voeller of Caspers, WY, Donna Hayes of Great Falls, Karen (Scott) Tuxbury of Missoula, MT, and Diane (Steve) Dahlman of Dutton, MT.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, three brothers: Elmer, Hank, and Alvin; seven sisters: Mabel Shasky, Rose Nelson, Leona Hoff, Sally Forsell, Josie Hagen, Verona Helling, and Elizabeth Scott.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN. Visitation will take place one hour before the funeral on Saturday. Interment will be held at Bethel Cemetery, rural Winger.
